Babybluesbdancing Takes Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante

BABYBLUEBDANCING TAKES PAT WHITWORTH ILLINOIS DEBUTANTE

BABYBLUESBDANCING TAKES PAT WHITWORTH ILLINOIS DEBUTANTE

Lizabeth Gore’s Babybluesdancing took the lead midway through the stretch in Saturday’s 34th running of the Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante and was able to maintain that lead through the finish, giving her her third straight victory and her first in a stakes.

The Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante is restricted to Illinois Conceived and Foaled or Illinois Foaled 2-year-old fillies. It is contested at one and one sixteenth miles on Hawthorne Race Course’s main track.

Trainer Terrel Gore can finally relax.

“I was so nervous I couldn’t stand it.  The races you get the most nervous in are the ones you think that you should do good.  She’s looked like she would be a two turn horse from the very start. And, I thought…I knew she had it in her to do it and she had the experience over most of them But, until it’s over, you never know.

“She’s going to get a good vacation right now.  She’ll come back in about April or May.”

Rider Julio Felix knew he was aboard a good thing: “I knew she wanted to go long from day one.  First time going long, she was a little too sharp, pulling a little too much early.  It made me worry a little bit. I thought she was going to get tired.  The way she did, she got a little tired, but there was no doubt in my mind that she could go the distance.   I knew that if they were going to beat her, they would have to run to beat her.

“Every furlong or every half a furlong she’d go, she always got better.  She started off with a half mile race, she ran fourth.  Then five-eighths, she ran third.  Three quarters, she won.  She won again, three quarters.  Then long, she won again — I was right.”

Babybluesbdancing got the mile and a sixteenth, over a fast track, in 1:47.14 after fractions of :24.04, :48.56, 1:13.43 and 1:40.19. She won the race by one and one quarter lengths over Spring City Gal. It was another head back to She’s Fine Tuned.

Even-money favorite Jolee finished a non-threatening fourth.

Babybluesbdancing, the second choice in the wagering paid $9.60, $5.40 and $3.80. Spring City Gal returned $36.00 and $12.00. She’s Fine Tuned brought back $3.80 to show.

“BUG” BOY ULLOA FINE AFTER SPILL

With the exception of the normal bumps and bruises you would expect from falling off a Thoroughbred going full speed. Apprentice rider Carlos J. Ulloa appeared to be fine and in good spirits after he lost his irons aboard Repeat Afleet going around the first turn in Saturday’s ninth race.
