Kinda glad I wasn’t the person making the morning line for
the Grade 1 Kentucky Oaks. What a tough race. I wound up selecting #10-PROM
QUEEN. She’s lightly raced compared to many here but she has certainly looked
good so far. She won her last two and rated the comment “ridden out” in those
last two victories. Obviously, this is her toughest task yet and she has to
succeed in her longest race so far but think she’ll be up to the challenge.
Morning-line favorite #2-ZANY was a daylight winner in her first three races,
including a race at this distance last year, but she wasn’t able to keep that
win streak alive in her last start while going off as the heavy favorite. It’s
quite possible that she didn’t handle the “good” track condition well and she
did finish second, well clear of the third-place finisher but she was beaten by
Percy’s Bar, another member of this field. 11-PERCY’S BAR finished first in a
pair of Grade 1 races, including last. She was DQ’d in the other. Appreciate that
she was able to beat Zany in last despite making her first start since the
Breeders’ Cup last year.
