Emily's Analysis

Ellis Park Race 1

Post Time 11:50 AM CST
Analysis by Emily Gullikson

The analysis starts with #1 GRACE GIVEN with the class drop to move up naturally at this level and stands out with some of the higher recorded figures in this field.

First time starter #3 ZIVA is worth a mention with the belated debut noting she was entered last October at KEE in a $30k MCL event and with some consistent works as of late shows up here as a 4yo with the connections looking to be reasonable on placement.

Ellis Park Race 2

The higher figure from the debut on #2 CATAMOUNT (WEAK) should get attention here and while a solid effort on the day, he had to work HARD and faces a tougher group on the circuit switch and other speed to contend with.

#6 GIVE HER ANOTHER can IMPROVE all around and step up in this second career start. Going back to her debut, she caught the eye in the paddock making a positive PRERACE+ appearance and in-running making a WIDE MOVE to record a B- OptixGRADE despite the 5th place result.

Ellis Park Race 5

Analysis by Emily Gullikson

#6 WITS AND WAGERS turned in a BTL effort both in the $50k N2 claiming even to close out 2023 as well as the return last month protected off the bench in starter allowance company. She holds a solid pair of efforts from last season over those course and two turn mile distance that might not have been enough at the time and place, though fit on par here.

Ellis Park Race 7

Analysis by Emily Gullikson

This is a competitive race where a case can be made on any in this field and many different outcomes would not be any surprise. Sticking with a current trend, J. Sharp has sent out live in a limited sample and has a pair in this race. #2 WINTERS LION will give up recency off the layoff though going back to his races from last year he was holding his own against tough competition and productive races that could see him find the right group here. His most recent start from Jan at OP comes with a "flow upgrade" scenario with the top three from off the pace and the winner, Magic Tap finishing in a photo for the Razorback (G3) win in his next start.

Ellis Park Race 9

After the mention of J. Sharp earlier on the card, the barn will be represented here by #10 CLOUDY HOLIDAY one that recorded a B- OptixGRADE in MSW company back in May at CD and projects to IMPROVE off the 6/16, their most recent start. #11 ENGLISH CHUNNEL also given a massive upgrade forced to CLOSE into a Very Slow early and late pace in that 6/16 common race making his debut.
