Emily's Analysis

Del Mar Race 1

Post Time 4:00 PM CST
Analysis by Emily Gullikson

Of the horses with experience, #2 HEY LIL LADY earned a follow off the debut especially as she STRETCH out for this second start.

A few of the FTS look to have run and going out for live barns: #4 LADY LOLLIPOP looks fit and suited for today's conditions and similar for #8 SEA RUNNER one that looks every bit a turf horse and T. Yakteen has been live this meet. #7 JACK'S MAGIC GIRL is not one I have seen since April though has some athleticism and should be fit off the long worktab and appears to have some buzz with the shorter ML assignment.

#4 ASIAN MATRIARCH should move up with the change in class and distance for today's race. She also has the ability to show early speed going back to last November with the race over this course and distance.

#9 BIG GEORGE is likely to be overlooked off the recent running lines and finishing positions, thou h brings upside and buried form. He recorded a BTL effort back in April with a figures on par and caught against a pacesetting 7-5 winner on 5/19 and turned in a strong CLOSE on 6/16 in a race with the top four together at the wire.

There are some reservations with the long layoff runners giving up recency and in for a tag though #1 CURRY could be the controlling speed from the inside over a course that has favored runners forward and inside; #6 RED FLAG finds class relief while returning as a gelding and his class and figure edge for a barn/jockey that has been live this meet fits.

#6 BERT'S PROSPECT returns with a freshening in their second start against winners and can improve from the 5/19 effort. The rider TACTIC- was less than ideal caught WIDE unable to establish position on a Very Fast early pace before losing ground.

#3 HOLIDAY WITH AMY might not be the "most likely" though brings in versatility and upside from the races this season likely to be overlooked today. She was in against the higher $25k N3 class back on 5/25 and moved up with the B- effort at today's conditions on 6/20. She is upgraded further not only returning to the $25k N3 class but from the 7/11 trip with poor rider TACTIC- (rider change today) to suggest intent and upside from the WIDE trip stalking a Very Fast early pace.

#1 BREAK THE SPELL wheels right back after running a (B) riderless race under similar conditions two weeks ago. He had a look on the day keying off the BTL effort back on 6/16 and the class drop to claiming conditions last out upgraded right back with those angles here.
