Emily's Analysis

Del Mar Race 1

Analysis by Emily Gullikson

Taking a bit of a live longshot stab with #7 ZEUS' WAR - they hold back numbers on the dirt sprinting and over the DMR main track on par as a contender. This marks their third start off the layoff and looking at OptixGRID is showing progression with OptixGRADE coming into this race to suggest they are sitting on a "B" effort in the right time and place dropping in to the claiming level for the first time

Projecting a REGRESS for #4 KID DYNASTY and taking on in this spot as they project to be likely favored. #10 UNBRIDLED VISION brings in buried form a couple of higher par events with competitive figures/Grades and an EX/EXCUSE taking a legitimate stumble (TROUBLES+) in claiming company back in May. In addition, they bring in a positive Plot (ABOVE) runstyle for today's race shape with tactical speed from the outside to track KID DYNASTY on the lead and look for first run. #8 B GRAYSON also looks well spotted back at the right level to compete and since coming back as a 3/4yo (though notable GREEN Keywords in all three 2yo starts including X_BIAS over DMR dirt) is a perfect two-for-two in dirt sprints.

#7 MARJORAM presents value at the 8-1 ML, the McCarthy barn starting out trending HOT with MARJORAM coming into this race off an EX/EXCUSE in the Summer Oaks (G3) trip and gaining the two turn experience while returning to the turf and J. Hernandez here. Going back to the Senorita (G3) granted a sprint the B+ on the day suggesting the move from G3 to G2 and with a similar par being a class rise they can handle.

LONGSHOT: #9 NATIVE LAND holds back numbers and class to suggest they can compete at this level. Their form coming back off the layoff this year at OP was X_FLOW in both route races and very productive 4/24 race with three next out winners and another pair finishing in the money. Some further intent could be in play showing up off the claim and freshened for the connections at DMR (ship and win while still not taking a drop) and overall trainer S. Williams has had success at DMR while bringing in live runners.

#5 TAN TOAST moves up for this second start -- a PREP three weeks ago for debut, subtle trip now finds the class change lower MOC level and much lower race par with a positive ROI rider change
