Del Mar Race 3

Analysis by Emily Gullikson

#5 MONDEGO brings in a Class edge going back to the sophomore season in graded stakes company as well as intent from prior seasons for the marathon type distances. In terms of current Form, they bring it despite the recent outcomes that could be overlooked rather than the effort overall and visuals with Speed figures that fit on par. That includes a BTL effort making a CLOSE X_FLOW in their season al return in June at SA (ship and win eligible will add for intent)  recording a B- OptixGRADE. They move up in today's race shape as well to a Q1 Square to check the further boxes on Pace.

Vulnerable Favorite: While as an individual #9 KINGS RIVER KNIGHT fits as the horse to beat, the timing (HARD 6/21) and race shape (Fire/64) creates challenges to overcome. While they are capable of doing so, the shorter odds create opportunities to take a swing against.

#1 SPEAK UP showed some hidden ability (BTL) during the early KY juvenile campaign and intent for turf that presented number improvement later than season and before the layoff. The layoff they returned from held the class edge with the 5/29 maiden win. Off that race, they improved number wise on 6/22 while stepping up against winners finishing in a blanket for minors recording a B- OptixGRADE behind the open length 4-5 chalk winner, Romantica. They are given a further upgrade in this spot with the shift back to TURF and that 7/12 race with the Fast early/late pace and noted higher OFR.

#6 NICKI IS A BREEZE should move up on the class DROP and change in post coming back this season from the two month break. Improvement from the juvenile numbers could make her the clear horse to beat and even a repeat stacks up on par and with their main rivals. #9 SPUN AROUND moved up with the class drop returning with a B OptixGRADE on 6/14. They stretch back out for this third start off the layoff and upgraded with the TROUBLE_S (slight stumble start) WIDE trip and solid GALLOP+ on 7/5.

#3 BAIL US OUT might be the Repole best chance to pick up a graded stakes win today and with fair odds in the process. Overall this is an evenly matched stakes race and when assessing ML favorite #1 DRESDEN ROW they fit fit and going back to last season the Ontario Derby (G3) a race they won though recording a B OptixGRADE with BAIL US OUT finishing second also earning a B OptixGRADE those two together at the wire.
